Demographics - Founding
The two towns were founded in 13th century-
Weymouth in 1252 and 27 years later Haapsalu 1279.
With castles built- they grew as ports. The towns have evolved with the sea and integral for the life in the town- based upon fishing, ship building and trading. Today, the sea is equally important, for in the summer tourists flock to the towns to catch the sun and waves.
